After a magic May in 2008, this year it was more of a muted May. The Lesser Scaup lingered into the first week whilst the only real excitement was the Spoonbill for those who could stomach the long trek out to Kenfig River Mouth. Nightjars performed at traditional sites such as Llanwonno and some mid month gales produced a few seabirds off Porthcawl. Finally, a Turtle Dove at Cosmeston on the 30th was a good sighting of an increasingly difficult bird to see in VC41. Fingers crossed for a better autumn.1st - Whimbrel Cardiff Bay Barrage.

10th - Tree Pipit Garth Mountain. 1st summer Iceland Gull Ogmore Estuary. Spotted Flycatcher Landsdown Gardens. 18 Wheatear Llangynwyd. Spoonbill Goldcliff.
11th - Black-tailed Godwit 1, Cosmeston. Lavernock Point Manx Shearwater 95, Fulmar 2, Common Scoter 3, Sandwich Tern 2, Arctic Tern 5, Common Tern 1 & Grey Plover 1. 14 Black-tailed Godwit Kenfig Pool.
